Evergy Energy: A one-stop-shop for your embedded network | RateCIty

Evergy Energy focuses on offering some of the best deals to its customers. They track themselves against the three largest energy retailers at least twice a year to ensure this. If they find any difference, Evergy Energy will reduce the prices for its small group of customers.

Evergy Energy Prices

Evergy Energy currently has a small customer base with embedded networks in two apartment blocks in Sydney. Residents who currently live in or move into Marina Square and Rhodes Central can access the discounted rates by being part of an Evergy energy embedded network. If you want the exact details of these plans, you can contact Evergy Energy or the strata managers of either Marina Square or Rhodes Central.

All energy plans from Evergy have a ten-day cooling-off period and have no contract terms. Additionally, there is no exit fee if you choose to not be part of the embedded network and change your mind and choose another energy retailer.

Additional charges applied to Evergy Energy plans

On top of the standard energy charges, you may be charged the following fees:

  • Late payment fees: Bank dishonour fee if your direct debit fails.
  • Disconnection fees: Disconnection fee due to non-payment of your account.
  • Connection fees: Charged at different rates depending on whether you require it the same day or not.
  • Special meter read and special meter read validation fees: Apply when you request that your meter be read outside the regular readings.

If the company arranges any service on your behalf, a pass-through fee is applicable.

  • Network charges: If you choose a different authorised energy retailer but continue living in your home, you’ll pay network charges. This is because Evergy will continue incurring certain costs for your premises as it’s part of their embedded network. You have to make sure to inform your new energy retailer to exclude these charges from your electricity bill as you’ll be charged directly from Evergy.

The network charges are calculated based on shadow pricing. This means the amount will be equivalent to what you would pay the local electricity distributor if your home was directly connected to their wiring. It’s charged on a time of use basis.

How to pay Evergy energy bills?

The company provides the following options to pay your bills:

  • Direct debit from your designated bank account
  • BPAY using the details on your bill
  • Online via credit card
  • Over the phone on 1300 383 749
  • Via mail using the details on your bill.

Concessions and rebates

There are a range of concessions and rebates you can access with Evergy if you’re eligible. These rebates depend on where you live but could include:

  • Low Income Household Rebate for certain concession cardholders.
  • NSW Gas Rebate for certain concession cardholders.
  • Family Energy Rebate for families who qualified for the Family Tax Benefit in the previous 12 months. Your rebate will differ based on whether you also hold certain concession cards.

  • Medical Energy Rebate

For more information on the concessions or rebates available, you can check this page.

The Energy Accounts Payment Assistance (EAPA) Scheme may be helpful if you’re facing short-term financial difficulties to pay your bill on time. You can contact one of the 340 EAPA providers to discuss your needs.

Can you choose another supplier for electricity at your home?

If your community has an embedded network provided by Evergy, you can still choose another energy retailer. Some retailers may not offer electricity services within an embedded network, so be sure to check this before making your decision. However, if you do choose an alternate energy retailer you’ll still have to pay Evergy network charges. Your provider may offer to pay for these charges directly with Evergy and therefore include them in your bill. In this case, Evergy will bill your provider for netowork charges and not you.

When you sign up with your new provider they’ll have to organise for a new meter to be installed. You can contact the embedded network manager for any assistance during this entire process. If you want to return to Evergy later, you’ll have to pay an additional charge for installing a new embedded network meter.

Is Evergy right for you?

The centralised systems cannot be changed when you move into an apartment building within an embedded network service provider. However, you do have the option of choosing another energy retailer for your apartment. Before moving into an embedded network and choosing between it or another energy retailer, check all the costs involved. Understanding all the costs will help you decide if it’s right for you.

Questions you may have

How to find cheap gas and electricity?

One of the best ways to find cheaper gas and electricity plans is to compare the plans offered by various service providers in your area. You can compare any perks or discounts available from the retailers and the standard costs and fees. You’ll also be able to calculate the estimated monthly, quarterly, and annual costs.

Be careful choosing based solely on these upfront perks or costs, however. These discounts or lower usage perks may end when the contract or benefit period expires on your current plan. When you compare online, you can often find a better plan.

Your total energy bill includes supply and usage charges, which vary from one provider to another. You can shop around online to find a retailer that offers competitive prices on these charges and any other fees. Discounts can help reduce your bill, and it makes sense to review your bill and think about how to find cheaper gas and electric providers at least once a year.
